Schrank
Steven Schrank presently serves as the Acting Deputy Assistant Director for the Countering Transnational Organized Crime, Financial and Fraud Division for Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), the principal investigative component of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS). HSI investigates, disrupts, and dismantles transnational criminal organizations and terrorist networks that threaten or seek to exploit the customs and immigration laws of the United States. Mr. Schrank provides strategic leadership across all HSI Financial Programmatic Portfolios, including International Money Laundering, Organized Retail Crime, Bulk Cash Smuggling, Asset Forfeiture, Document, Benefit and Labor Exploitation.
Prior to this assignment, Mr. Schrank served as the Deputy Special Agent in Charge for HSI’s Pacific Northwest offices in Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Alaska. In prior headquarters assignments, he has served as the Division Chief for Countering Transnational Organized Crime, and HSI Investigative Services Division, the Asset Forfeiture Unit Chief and Liaison to the Treasury Executive Office for Asset Forfeiture.
In previous field assignments, Mr. Schrank served as HSI New York’s Assistant Special Agent in Charge of the El Dorado Financial Crimes Task Force, where he managed Federal, State and Local investigators from over 30 agencies to combat and prevent international money laundering and predicate offenses. Mr. Schrank has also served as Deputy Chief of the New York Drug Enforcement Strike Force, Assistant Special Agent in Charge of Contraband Smuggling, and as a Group Supervisor for Money Laundering, Financial Fraud and Child Exploitation groups.
Mr. Schrank has conducted international training and presentations to officials from across the globe as well as domestic training to hundreds of Federal, State and Local officers and prosecutors. Prior to these assignments, he conducted financial investigations and electronic surveillance operations with HSI and the U.S. Customs Service in New York and Washington, DC. Mr. Schrank is a Veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard and a graduate of The American University. He is a lifelong runner and triathlete, enjoys boating, skiing and the outdoors.
