Nirosha Amarasinghe is a Sanctions Monitoring and Testing Manager at world's largest virtual currency exchange, Binance. Nirosha functions in a global role providing stakeholders across Compliance and broader Binance teams with effective strategies to manage Sanctions, ABC & CTF related risks. She develops, implements, and oversees the compliance monitoring and testing frameworks in the second line of defense critically evaluating processes to identify, document, and assess compliance risks associated with Binance's activities, providing strategic advice, and challenges as appropriate. Whilst staying abreast of regulatory and internal developments that affect Binance globally, she develops strategies playing a key role in determining the FCC risk profile, assessing their impact on Binance. Nirosha also liaises and negotiates with external stakeholders, ranging from regulators, auditors to industry bodies/associations. Nirosha Actively contributes to and leads internal and industry-wide knowledge management initiatives, fostering the exchange of knowledge on evolving regulations and risk typologies in order to enhance Sanctions, ABC & CTF knowledge within the team.
Prior to joining Binance Nirosha Amarasinghe was the Lead Regulatory Compliance Manager at First West Credit Union. Her role entailed providing leadership, consultation and direction to management, necessary to facilitate the implementation and maintenance of policies, processes, governance and infrastructure in accordance with associated regulatory expectations. Nirosha played a key role in the Federal continuance journey of First West and shared her knowledge and experience for this provincial credit union to become a federal credit union. Nirosha collaborated and interacted with leadership and key stakeholders at all levels throughout the Credit Union, providing expert advice and consultation.
Prior to joining First West Nirosha was with HSBC Bank Canada, carrying out in-depth analysis of rules, regulations, and policies to identify emerging compliance risks, assessing the materiality of policy gaps and reviewing the design and operational effectiveness of the controls in place to mitigate financial crime and regulatory risks.
Prior to joining HSBC, Nirosha was with BMO Bank of Montreal where she specialized in Canadian Retail Banking and Wealth Management industries. Before moving to Canada, Nirosha was at ICICI Bank in Sri Lanka, where she held the position of a Compliance Manager. She was a pioneer member of the management team recruited to set up the operation. Nirosha has also held Sales Administration Manager and Sales Compliance Manager positions at AVIVA Insurance, a UK Based insurance company in Sri Lanka.
With over decades of management expertise in the financial services industry, Nirosha has had the opportunity to attend various compliance and legal programs in many countries such as, the Netherlands, Belgium, France, India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Malaysia and Singapore to name a few. Nirosha was an Attorney-at-Law in Sri Lanka and holds a LL.B Degree. She also holds the Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS) designation from ACAMS, USA and Chartered Marketer designation from Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM), UK.
